Waving at mom.
Proud Dad! Proud Mom!
I guess I will interrupt trying to catch up and just start at the present so I don't get soooo far behind on these MAJOR milestones. There is a baby coming soon, too. Did you know that? :)
Well, Sonya started Kindergarten today!! What an exciting time for our family. Our whole schedule will be changed for a very long time. Hard to believe we will be getting up early EVERY morning now and have somewhere to go. Up until today Sonya would have told you she wasn't excited about going, but this morning when I asked her she said she was excited! I am so thankful! I am excited for her. It was exciting preparing her lunch and backpack last night, exciting getting up early this morning (wide awake at 5 a.m.!), exciting making a special breakfast for her, and exciting taking her into her new school! There have been a few times in the last few weeks that thinking about her growing up and all the transitions our family is/has/will be going through has made me weepy, but today there were no tears. Just excitement. I'm thankful the Lord has made this a happy time, but it is still strange to think that she's not fully under my wing anymore. I pray that these last five and a half years have given her the foundation she needs to start facing the world around her without me always being there, and I KNOW that the Lord is with her (and me) wherever she goes.
Last night Sonya decided she wanted to set her alarm to wake her up this morning...well the sleepy head didn't get up so we had to wake her. :) Nothing like a video camera light shining in your face to wake you up. She looked up at us and said "it's too bright!" She finally got up and started getting ready. Sage was just as excited. She hopped out of bed and said "is it time to get ready for school?!" and started getting dressed. Both of them picked out their outfits last night and got ready together this morning. So fun to watch. I had asked earlier what she wanted for breakfast on the first day and she requested the oatmeal bake with blueberries in it. So that's what we had with scrambled eggs. We finished up with breakfast, brushed teeth, and went outside to take first day pictures. I love my sweet girl and too many pictures is never enough. :) We have so many kids on our street and everyone was out at the same time doing the same thing. It was so neat to be a part of it all. Where is Joelle you might ask? Well, we had to wake her up right before we left! I thought she would have been up with all the noise we were making.
We (the whole family, Daniel included) hopped in the car and drove to school. Had to park a little ways out and walk since there were so many people going in for the first day. We got into Sonya's classroom, she found her seat, hung up her backpack, put her lunch in her cubby and sat down to get started. I kept thinking there had to be something more, but she was just ready to get started. Very independent I would say!! We took some pictures, and I think she kept wondering why we were hanging around. :) We got our quick hugs and left. Independence and security is what I have been praying for her, right?? I am grateful.
We had plenty to keep us busy so today went by pretty fast. Sage is totally fine being the big sister while Sonya is at school. :) Time to pick her up! I was happy to have her back with us and hear about her day! She had a great time and didn't miss us at all! :) That was one of the reasons she didn't want to go to kindergarten....missing us at home. Her favorite thing about today was going to music class. As an after school treat I took the girls to Sonic happy hour! We all got our slush of choice and came home. What a day! Sonya was VERY excited when Daniel came home tonight to tell him about her day. She went into greater detail with him than with me! She just had more time to process everything, right?? :) Well, I can't wait to see how the year goes and learn more about everyday life with a kindergartener!

Brycen gives Ryan more details too- I think it's b/c I ask lots of questions and Ryan doesn't so he wants to tell him more. lol I tell myself that anyway!
I think it's cute that Sage likes being the big sister while Sonya is at school!
B has music on Mondays too :)
Marvelous! I know it's a load off your shoulders to know she's doing well and enjoying herself. Your whole post is so positive and uplifting - what a great blessing! I'm so glad for your family. She's going to do great and be right in her element at school.
